As moms, we know the stress of repetition.

We feel the toll on our joints from holding young ones, picking up toys from the floor, and fulfilling our occupational duties. Our nervous systems absorb heightened vigilance, cries for Mommy, and being suddenly woken from deep sleep. When this all takes place amid significant life changes, it feels like something’s got to give.

I created Shakti Urbana to lighten the physical and mental load of the first five years of motherhood.

With counter-postures and yogic techniques based on helpful opposites, our therapeutically-informed, 20 minute sequences revitalize multiple systems of the body-mind at once.

When core strengthening eases low back pain and improves your digestion; hip openers help you play with your kid(s) and process difficult emotions; joint exercises ease swelling and support immunity, your life force, prana shakti, flows with ease.

Inspired by feminine superpowers. Committed to a dreamy future.

“Something unique about being a mom is needing to reinvent self-care routines as a child grows. My hope is to provide women with flexible, minimalist, yoga-based strategies for replenishment, inspiration, and longevity. Shakti Urbana is a work in progress born from an experience of motherhood, and aimed at harmonizing the body-mind with nature’s rhythms.”

About Susana

Originally certified by CorePower Yoga in 2009, Susana taught her first yoga classes to friends in Balboa Park. When a downtown co-working space sought an entrepreneurial yoga teacher, Susana opened the boutique studio Urban Yogi alongside her “business bestie,” DCOMPRESS. After 10 years of teaching inspired classes, certifying over 50 instructors through her Yoga Alliance-approved 200 hour teacher training, Susana joined the integrative health community by becoming a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT) with the Soul of Yoga Institute. She worked closely with clients of her private yoga therapy practice until becoming a mother in 2020.

Her journey as a new mother inspired Susana to rename her business Shakti Urbana, and create an online yoga offering for mothers of young children, which launches in the fall of 2023.

Susana mentors yoga therapists in Holistic Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga at the Soul of Yoga Institute, and is a Master’s student of Integral Health at the California Institute for Human Science. Susana is an environmental advocate, and dedicates her work to peace on Earth.
